A Secret Addiction

Ok to some of you this is not so secret but to others you may be appalled by this confession. My spunky little Summer will be 3 in a week and yes, I still let her have a Binky. Technically the rule is, she's only allowed to have it in bed. But this little sneak, is a master at finding one. Summer would walk around with it all day if I let her. Just in case you're wondering Yes, I do realize it's time to "pull the plug"! At this point I'm trying to gear up for the "event". Because that's in fact what it will be; an "event". At our house my girls have not enjoyed the experience of having the tooth fairy visit. You see, at our house we have a "Binky Fairy" visit. Emry was elated at the idea of a visit from a fairy. Summer on the other hand has now told me "I hate fairies". Allow me to explain. Apparently at an age and stage in my life that I deem appropriate, we gather up all the Binkies put them in a cute little basket and while we are all deep in slumber, the Binky Fairy flies to our house. She takes the basket of Binkies (so that she can take them to all the new babies who need them at the hospital, Duh!) and she leaves a most delightful surprise for the Binkyless child. How enchanting, I know! If only they knew it was their mother who is the brains behind this operation and for that matter many various night visitors who may bestow gifts to my children. (good thing my girls can't read my blog or read at all for that matter. I'm sharing such "top secret" information that could foil so many of my plans for not only the Binky Fairy, but maybe the Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny and dare I say it... Santa!) I really had intended on taking the Binky away long ago. Clearly you need more than intentions in which to carry out such a task. I do believe I'm getting really close now. At this point I just need to find a surprise so divine, Summer would never want her Binkies back at the risk of loosing her precious gift. Then of course I'll need to explain to Emry why she may need to sleep in the guest room. I have every reason to believe Summer may cry her self to sleep for a few nights. So wish me luck! And encourage me not to back out this time. I really don't want to embarrass myself by writing "A Secret Addiction" (take 2). OK there it's out! Now you all know my children's ability to sway my decision making. Go ahead let the condemnation begin.
This is my favorite! She thinks if she closes her eyes, we can't see her or the Binky in her mouth!

Most of my kids shared the same addiction... and they continued itvfor a very long time until it was I more embarressed than sad for them!! It is the worst to ween them off the Binkie! Very long, sad, emotional nights. Best of luck with that... it is so hard!! :(

my oldest had her passie (as we called it) til she was 4!! we actually went to disneyland and had her throw it in the garbage outside of the front gates before we went in. it worked well the whole time we were there until we came back to reality. there were definitely some tears when we got home

good luck ;)

We didn't have a binky problem but the "sleep fairy" had to come for Nicole. When she went a certain number of nights without coming in to our room because she had a "bad dream" then the sleep fairy came a brought a prize.

We also used to have the "bedroom fairy" (really Shannon Harms dressed up in funny clothes) who came randomly to check if kid's bedrooms were clean. There were prizes if they were! I think we need to start that one up again. I wonder if it will work for teenagers?

Good luck, it is really just a bad night or two! You'll make it. Rich took our boys camping (fathers n sons) and threw it in the fire, poor Hunter. Richard was more devestated by it -he thought dad was being so mean to Hunter. That was the end of it though, lucky for Rich he slept well that night. Stay strong Bre, you can do it!!!

That is so funny. Well at least its a binky that you can take away. Shea sucks her fingers and I'm trying to get her to stop, but I can't cut off her hand. But I'm the same way you are, she's not allowed to suck her fingers during the day, but at night its fair game:) Good luck taking the binky away, just remember, it will hopefully only be bad for a few nights.

I never would have guessed! I'm such a wimp, my kids get whatever they want if it makes them sleep. We never had a binky problem though. Dalin had bottle addictions and my twin apparently will nurse until they're on their missions. I'll have to wean them by then.

The picture of Summer with her eyes shut is great!! Kids are so funny!

You can do it!!! Ruhtie was the same age and we took it away when we went to Disneyland too...great motivation to buy a fun - expensive - new toy :-) I love Jolene's idea about the bedroom fairy to keep it clean...I'll have to do that - heads up Shannon! You'll have some hard nights but it will be better in the end - especially for speech...oh who am I kidding, Weston is almost 2 and still has his . Talk to me about Nursery later... hang in there!

Three days max. You need to cut the nipples off of them so you can't give in either. You can do this. I believe in you. You're strong, determined, a fighter. We're all here for you Breanna. You CAN do this!

Okay, mine never had binkie addictions. But the binkie fairy is a great idea. Kacee and I were laughing. You are so smart. They all survive this hardship.
